YEAR 1

Welcome back to Term 3. Year 1’s welcomed a new student, Mohammad Al Homsi to their class. He is settling in well and making new friendships.

At the end of last term, students completed a geography project, a landscape diorama. Here are photos of the fantastic effort put in by the students to create these with the help of their parents.

In English this term, we will be focusing on procedural writing. The students learned that a procedure tells you how to do something. An example of this kind of text could be a recipe for how to make a hot chocolate or a step-by-step list of how to wash a dog. The students also learnt that a procedure must include a title, materials, method or steps. Students enjoyed making sock puppets and writing the instructions to make it.

In Maths, we have been learning about fractions: halves and quarters of groups of objects. We are also integrating this topic during literacy sessions, using the terms halves and quarters in recipes.

In Science this term, we will be exploring chemical and biological science. In the first 5 weeks we will be focusing on:

The cooking elective is also being enjoyed by the students and in the last 2 weeks they made a fruity smoothie and baked choc chip cookies.

Please continue to read with your child every night and fill in the reading diary. Also help your child to complete all their written and online homework on time.
